He shook his head. “No. Why would I do that? I have much better ways to engage myself.”
“Then why?” She tried to ignore the trills that ran through her body as she held his hand.
“Why what?”
“Why are you still here? Why are you staring at me?”
The other part of the question remained on her lips. Unsaid. Why was he touching her so dearly if he didn’t care for her at all?
He didn’t say another word but he freed his hand from hers, placing her hand by her side. “First thing tomorrow morning—”
“I’ll be out of here.”
There was no more need in prolonging her shame. She blamed herself for listening to Harris. He was such a sweet talker. He would be a danger to any woman who actually fell for his plans.
