Chapter 132. Vulnerable
When Elaine came to, she was in a bed with a saline drip attached to her hand. Reiki sat in a chair in the white room with her hands folded in her laps.
“I’m so glad you’re awake,” Reiki said.
Elaine sat up, trying to remember what had led her to this point. “Melvin—”
“Yes.” Reiki gave her a gentle pat. “It’s not been confirmed yet. But he’s probably gone.”
Elaine covered her mouth with the saline-drip hand. “It’s all my fault.”
“Don’t talk like that.” Reiki frowned.
“But it’s true. I didn’t tell you. He caught us. We were kissing.”
Reiki’s mouth formed a big ‘o’ but she didn’t say a word.
“And he marched off angry. Now he’s got in an accident. I wish I had just come out and said the truth in the first place.”
“Well, that’s all in the past now.” Reiki reached to the small Oakwood desk at the side and pulled out an envelope. “Andrew wanted you to have this.”
Elaine took the envelope. “Where is he?”
Reiki did not respon
