Chapter 129. My Job
Elaine got to work two hours after her resumption time.
She had dressed and left the house in a mental fog and even when Reiki tried to pry the details of the previous night out of her, she hadn’t said a single word. Mostly because she was still processing it. Andrew had said she was the woman he loved and yet, he had said it was all a test. Melvin had refused to pick her calls. Not that she expected him to but, none of them had reached out to her.
None of the Swernbach family had expressed disappointment in her behavior. She expected that one of them would. Melvin ought to have told someone by now. But it was almost as if he had vanished off the face of the earth. Josephine had begged her to stay back for the rest of the night but her guilt would have killed her.
She wasn’t sure if it was the guilt or the anxiety but whatever it was, it stopped her from concentrating on the little things she could ordinarily do by herself, like make coffee or sign the time-in regi
