Chapter 78. The Jacket
“Was it necessary to buy the whole apartment?” Pops asked as they neared Elaine’s door.
Andrew shrugged, his fingers tightening around the weight in his pocket. Elaine’s phone. “She’s missing. I won’t spare any expense to find her.”
Pops looked up at him, shaking his head. “But this dump of an apartment complex isn’t even worth the amount you paid. And you still had to buy her phone.”
Andrew refused to comment. Of course, the owner of the complex had overcharged him, and in the long run, he would either have to upscale the apartment or record a loss. But those were thoughts he could dwell on after he found Elaine. She was worth far more than he’d paid for the apartment and a cheap phone.
Andrew opened the door ahead of Pop’s and the old man hurried in, but remained on his feet as he paced from one end of the room to the other.
“How’d it go?” Annette put the tablet on the table and stared at him.
“We found her phone, but…” Andrew brought the phone
