Chapter 81. Her Hero
Consciousness returned to Elaine before her eyes flew open in acceptance. Her first breath caught in her throat. The ceiling was different. She grabbed her glasses from the bedside table. No more gray top with a hidden trap door – rather it was a high white ceiling that was held up by coffee cream walls.
The white bed covering hid her body from the neck down and even though her body ached, joints and all – the places that had been held by the knots of captivity, a feeling of wellness and well-being reminded.
The IV line in her arm was her clue that whosoever had been on top of the basement had got to her before death came knocking or Alfred returned. Or else, this was good treatment from her kidnapper before he launched into the next phase of his plan.
The door to her room, directly opposite the foot of her bed, opened and a young doctor came in with a stethoscope dangling from her neck and a small tablet in her hand.
