Chapter 9
Darwin was in disbelief at his luck. Something had obviously drawn the raven mountain lion to the vampire. Perhaps there was some connection that the beast had with its carer and keeper in the cage. He was being shielded rather than attacked. Then, was it still too early to go to the underworld? He wasn't dead yet.
A concession appeared to be necessary because the situation appeared to be complicated. The clock was ticking away. Nature can only hold on for so long until their shared destiny is doomed to a horrific demise by the forces of nature. Sooner or later, this violent mob would pay the price.
Despite this, the audience erupted once more, and Darwin raised his gaze to the faces in the stadium, realising that it was, in fact, he who was looking down on them. The crowd that forced him to participate, and he who had previously won victory after victory, imagined he loved them all as he waved, thinking of themselves as his comrades in strange ways as he waved.
