Chapter 21
James stared at her as though she had lost something. It might be the effect of fear and the feeling of loss playing. He must think. Aria waited for his response, but he said nothing. He only smiled. She got confused.
In her state, she had forgotten to think about the effect of taking in a young boy and becoming responsible for him. She might have a paying job, but it was rarely enough to carry her and her mother through, and they pay the nurse, Mrs. Kate. If her mom was not under a government paycheck and had utility rights, it would have been difficult to cater to her, but she didn’t mind. She would work extra hard.
Time passed, and the room suddenly got quiet. James dozed off without a response, and Aria, lost in her own thoughts, let him rest. She stood up and stepped out to see the outside. She felt perhaps that would give her some peace of mind. She had taken the left stairs of the hospital block.
