Chapter 20. Surprise Visit

“Mom?” Anna asked as she walked towards the woman. Was she hallucinating? Was this in her head or was her mother really in New York, right in her apartment? “What are you—what are you doing here?” 

Her eyes then fell on Zac who looked just as clueless as she felt. He also seemed a bit weird, almost as if he wanted to leave but wanted to stay at the same time. It was like he knew what was going to happen and that it could not be stopped. 

“Sit down, Anna,” The woman said to her daughter, gesturing to the space next to her. 

Anna felt some anger rise in her but she brushed it aside and went to the other couch and sat down, opposite from the woman. She sighed and then said, “Why are you here? I thought you said that you did not want anything to do with me anymore.”

The woman smiled sadly. “You look like you lost weight, have you been eating?” 

“Mom, we’re not talking about that right now, are we?” 

“We are.”
