Chapter 100. A Connection

The question hung in the air between them. Anna stared at the guy, waiting for an answer. She felt so bad, she hated how he looked and felt so bad for him.

“What happened to me?” He repeated the question and then scoffed faintly. He locked eyes with him. “I’m on the run, Anna. And let’s not forget, I still work for Victor.”

She doubled back. “You still work for Victor?”

“I don’t have a choice, do I? I’m bound to him. Liam is dead but with Vito still alive, I’m still a slave to the deal that I made to Victor.”

“So you have to do the same thing to Vito? Do you have to kill him?” Fear and nervousness tinged her tone as she waited for a response.  

“Well…” he broke eye contact and chuckled dryly. “I don’t have to technically kill him. I just have to make sure that Victor is more successful in the world of crime than Vito, then I’m free.”
