Her mind was spinning, trying to piece together what was happening. She wanted to shout, to argue more, but the weight of her mother’s words was like a suffocating fog.
Her stomach twisted, and her hands trembled slightly, though she refused to let her mother see it.
“I’m not going anywhere with you,” she said, her voice hoarse, but firm. “You can’t just use Zac like this. He’s not a pawn in your game.”
Her mother’s lips tightened, and Anna could see the anger simmering beneath the surface. “You’re making a mistake, Anna. You think you know what’s best, but you don’t. This… this isn’t a choice anymore. This is about you being safe, about you not getting yourself killed or locked up. You want to protect Zac? Then come with us. We’ll figure this out, but you have to leave now.”
Anna shook her head, her thoughts racing. She couldn’t let herself be controlled again.
