He let out a bitter laugh, running a shaky hand through his already disheveled hair. “Your mother,” he said, looking at her for the first time, his eyes dark and unreadable. “She turned me in.”
Anna felt a burn in her chest and she sighed. “I know…she had given me an ultimatum. She said she was going to turn you in if I didn’t follow her and my dad back home. Back to our hometown. And I was done, Zac. In fact, I am done. I wasn’t going to allow her to dictate my life anymore.”
