Chapter 143. The Mansion

Anna exhaled slowly, gripping the handle of her suitcase a little tighter. There was no use standing here like a lost child. She had to move. 

Had to find somewhere…anywhere…she could claim as her own, even if only for a while. She needed to find a room so she could try to unpack and settle down.

She rolled her suitcase forward, her boots clicking lightly against the polished marble floors as she searched for a room. 

Every door she opened revealed something grander than the last…high ceilings, intricate chandeliers, silk curtains swaying with the faintest breeze. The sheer luxury made her uncomfortable. 

It wasn’t hers. It would never be hers. It was all an illusion. She knew that Victor was only trying to make her feel as comfortable as she could and then strike. 

She was a pig being fattened up for slaughter.
