Chapter 31. Meeting Armano
Anna’s heart skipped a beat at Armano’s words. She glanced at Kevin, who motioned for her to keep talking. Why was she so nervous?
“I—uh, we need to see you,” Anna said, trying to keep her voice steady, and it worked. Her voice came out firm and fearless, even though that was not what she was feeling inside.
Armano’s laughter subsided, replaced by a tone of curiosity. “Why the sudden urgency, though? I mean, I knew you’d call but didn’t know when. So why now? Why all of a sudden?” Intrigue laced his tone.
Kevin leaned in, whispering urgently, “Tell him that we want to get to know a few things.”
“It’s just uh… we want to get to know a few things,” Anna repeated, hoping it sounded convincing. It was not like she was lying anyway; they really wanted to know a few things.
Silence hung on the line, the tension palpable. “Wait, you said we?”
Anna swallowed. “Yes, Kevin and I.”
“Kevin?”
“My brother,” she made it clear.
“I know, I know.
