Chapter 9. Nate Realizes His Mistake

On the eve of Daxton and Aurora's wedding, Drake saw Alexis sitting quietly on the porch, watching the still waters of the lake.  The whole family was having a BBQ party in the backyard. Drake saw the opportunity that he'd been looking for and walked up to her. 

He sat down beside her and she jumped up. "You scared me," she said, with her hand on her rapidly beating heart. His glance fell upon her heaving chest and then up into her stormy eyes. 

"I missed you," he told her. Alexis looked at him and he could clearly see the tears in her eyes. 

"I'm sorry that you had to go away because of me. I wish I was never born," she told him as a tear fell from her eye. Drake's heart broke hearing her words. He wanted to pull her into his arms but she suddenly got up and ran into the house, going up to her room and closing the door shut. Drake sat in silence.
