Chapter 25. Posing as His Girlfriend

“It’s okay, Claire. At least, you don’t have to pay Greg Stanford anymore,” Nate tried to comfort an upset Claire as she sat like a statue on the bed. She just couldn’t forgive herself for not being able to provide justice for her mom. Claire shook her head. 

“I wanted to prove that my mom was murdered, abused, and robbed by these two. I wanted to give her justice,” said Claire, covering her face as tears pooled in her eyes. Nate sat down beside her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. 

“I know and we tried our best, didn’t we? Your mom didn’t leave any clue for us to nab them. The investigations didn’t find any evidence against them,” said Nate with disappointment. Claire nodded. She knew he was right and there was nothing she could do about her situation. 

“I hoped I would get back to my mom's house at least. I need a roof over my head for the rest of my life. With the bakery closed down, I don’t think I can afford a place of my own to stay,” sa
