Chapter 47

Family Reunion

“Okay, mom. I’ll see you in a couple of hours. I love you. Okay, bye.” She ended the call with a sigh and dropped the phone on the counter.

Chris had his eyes fixed on her as he took careful sips of his steaming coffee. She noticed how he had been staring at her since she was on the phone with her mother. “What?” she asked him.

He had just gotten home yesterday from his trip, and she hadn’t told him Aaron was here. He had told her he wasn’t going to leave until she was willing to leave with him. She wasn’t going to do that, of course. At least not with him.

“You’ve been uneasy since I came back last night. What’s wrong?” His eyes softened, and he looked worried now. She loved and hated how he got worried about her easily. He shouldn’t worry about her, at least not when she’s not willing to tell him what’s bothering her. But Chris deserved to know what was happening because Aaron might decide to show up right now when they were leaving for work
