An hour later
Ares couldn't believe Martina would do something like that. He didn't see her as someone who would stoop so low, especially after they had both agreed to stay away from each other completely.
Their history was complicated but he had thought they had reached a mutual understanding.
Now, with Sophie in his house, everything was complicated. He stared at her as she sat opposite him, injured and in pain. She had arrived at his house quicker than he had expected.
She wasted no time in explaining to him over again what Martina had done and how hurt she was by it.
The doctor had yet to arrive, but Ares was skeptical. Were these injuries real, or had Sophie inflicted them on herself in a twisted ploy for attention? He had seen enough manipulation in his life to recognize the signs, but something about Sophie's tears and the tremor in her voice made him hesitate.
