Book 2: Chapter 47
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Another maid, this one with a more neutral expression, stepped inside. "Miss, Mr. Hendrick is here to see you. He is waiting in the living room."
Camila raised an eyebrow and grinned. "Seems like today is visiting day. I'll just keep myself busy with this breakfast tray."
Martina rolled her eyes at her friend, who was already reaching for a pastry. "I'll be back soon," she said, tying a robe over her nightgown. "Don't eat everything."
Camila waved her off, her mouth already full. "Take your time, girl."
Martina chuckled and made her way downstairs, her mind racing with questions about why Mr. Hendrick was here. How did he even know she was here? and why didn't he just try to reach her over the phone? She entered the living room to find Mr. Hendrick standing by the window, looking out over the expansive gardens.
"Mr. Hendrick," Martina greeted, trying to sound calm despite the swirl of emotions inside her. <
