Chapter 9. Plans
Tolar and Theo watched Liã through the trough, and both looked at each other happily.
"She's a good girl," Tolar said proudly.
Théo looked at him seriously.
"She is. But you know that if she doesn't get Moses' attention all to herself, there's no point in all this theater. We have to turn his heart away. We'll be massacred if she can't do what she did with the guards, with Pharaoh."
"You made the mess. If Liã can't undo the harm you've done, don't blame her for it."
"I have to admit that ambition went to my head when I did the wrong thing. Now, there is no remedy. There's no point in reproaching me for this foolishness of the past."
"Do you think her father already knows?"
"Of course, he knows. I doubt he's taken his eyes off her since she was born. He just hasn't come forward yet because something I did must have pleased him.
