Chapter 17
Scarlett’s POV
But that’s the truth. I may or may not actually be getting a little fond of my protector, and not in a platonic way. For one, I’m standing in front of him, comfortably with only a tank top and a very short pair of skin-hugging tights. He doesn’t seem to notice, maybe because of the heat of the conversation and even I probably got too carried away with emotion to cover myself up, but when I do notice, some odd part of me hopes that he does too...and that he likes it...at least enough to allow me on the trip with him.
He holds my gaze, hoping I’d give in, but I don’t. Instead, I repeat what I said. “I want to go wherever you go, Gage. I don’t think I’ll feel any safer than then.”
He rolls his eyes dramatically after some long seconds like he knows he’s making a bad decision, and frankly, he is. But if it’s a question of my own safety, I think I should also have a say in how safe I would be.
