Scarlett’s POV

All the gears in my head turn the opposite direction towards the door, but my mouth betrays them in the most stupid way that it can.

“It’s just a document I have to take home to work on.” I reply and she squints her eyes at me.

“In that pudgy and ugly envelope? That’s not a regular envelope Syd, I know that.” She counters and I feel my heart beat pick up in pace.

“What’s your deal? Are you the one working here all day? If I say it’s a regular document, then that’s what it is.” I defend myself.

“You do realize that I held this position before you came along? I know the difference between regular documents and ‘do not touch’ documents.” She says as a matter-of-factly and I pause for a second to consider it.

True. What was I even thinking?

I thought that I could get away with this as I already pride myself as a full time opportunist, but here I am being caught red-handed by a woman that hates me for understandable reasons.
