Chapter 12. Closure of the Exes
Sam sat on a bench outside the coffee shop, his heart thumping. He hadn't seen Mary in years, not since they split up after high school. But he couldn't shake the feeling that he needed to talk to her, to finally get some closure on what had happened all those years ago.
He took a deep breath and walked towards the coffee shop's entrance. Walking in, he noticed Mary at a tiny table near the window, sipping a latte and reading through her phone. She looked up and caught his eye, and Sam felt a jolt of nervous energy run through him.
"Hey," he said softly as he approached her table. "Long time no see."
Mary smiled up at him, but there was something guarded about her eyes that made Sam feel like he was intruding. "Sam," she replied, her voice faraway and chilly. "What is it that brings you here?"
"I, uh, I just wanted to talk to you," Sam explained, his nerves taking over. "About what happened between us."
