Book 3: From Ashes to Flames

The feeders stare at me like sheep, confused and scared. They don’t move. I don’t think they’re even breathing. I step around Lazar’s burning body and make a shooing motion at the feeders.

“Go!” I exclaim. “What are you waiting for?” I look around at all of them, waving my arms like a crazy person, but they just stand there, staring at me as the scent of sizzling vampire fills our lungs.

One of the female shifters is practically shaking. “We can’t go. Once the other Blood Takers come back, and we’re not here, we’ll be punished.”

“Only if they catch you,” I reason.  Time is ticking. I look in the direction that the vampires disappeared in. We should have more time, but it took for fucking ever for that stupid vampire to get close enough for me to get him the fire. “They can't hurt you if they can't catch you, which is why it is very prudent for all of you to get out of here!"
