Chapter 17. But I Am Not a Kid

“Do not do that again, okay?!” I cried as I said to Lee when we emerged from the river. Like me, she was also crying because she was really scared and thought she was going to drown.
I cried now because I couldn’t get the events of my second life out of my mind—when I saved Kate from a thief. We were both almost dying then because the thief had a knife, and like Lee’s crying now, Kate’s crying back then was almost like this—the kind of crying where she could hardly breathe because of sobbing. The cry that made her think she couldn’t be saved… that no one would help her.
When we got out of the river, that’s when I noticed that many people were already watching us. Earlier, I thought no one had seen what happened, that no one would help us if Lee and I both drowned, but it turns out, many people did see us. There was even a guard with a lifebuoy, ready to rescue us.
