Chapter 28. Cry Your Heart Out

After crossing from our school to the playground, I still couldn’t tell if the boy sitting on the swing, gently swaying himself, was Tate or Kade.
If it was Tate, I would try to talk to him and apologize… I would try to explain to him that what happened was an accident, and no one wanted it to happen.
But if it was Kade, I would probably just leave him alone and not try to talk to him. I knew that when a kid is hurt and angry, he doesn’t really listen to the explanations of the person he’s angry at. Besides, I didn’t want to force myself on him.
I took a few more steps closer to the swing, and as I got closer, I heard the boy humming a song… and that’s when I instantly knew it was Tate.
“Tate…” I called softly, and he immediately turned to look at me.
I couldn’t tell what emotion he was feeling… I didn’t know if he was surprised, happy, or angry that I was here… and that I had the nerve to talk to him.
