“What did he say… is he mad at you too?” Lee asked me once we got into the backseat of their car.
Lee, Auntie, and Uncle didn’t notice that I had cried because I quickly went to the restroom at the playground to wash my face, and I really held back my tears.
After that, I returned to the fetcher’s area, and thankfully, Auntie and Uncle hadn’t arrived yet. Just as I sat back down on the bench where I had been earlier, Lee returned from being called by our adviser. Our adviser had asked her about an essay writing contest and whether she was interested in it.
After Lee told me about it, I shared with her what happened at the playground. I wasn’t done with my story when Auntie and Uncle arrived, so now I continued it in a low voice. Lee understood why I was speaking quietly because I didn’t want Auntie and Uncle to worry about me, especially since they knew what had happened at the hospital—with Kade and me.
