Chapter 6
Kendra took her time coming down and making her way through the lighted path, flanked by well-maintained lawns and a garden. What was the rush after so many years?
She saw a figure peep through the curtains of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Apprehension heaved in her chest. Who was it? Althea? Dorothea? Before she got to the door, it was opened. Geraldine, her maternal grandmother, stood at the doorway, and Kendra smiled in relief. Geraldine had always been gracious and kind. Even at the ripe age of ninety, she was still active and agile.
“Well, if it isn’t the beautiful Kendra. You have not changed in the slightest. The years have been good to you.”
“The years have been good to you too, Grandma.”
They exchanged kisses.
“Love the outfit,” Geraldine said, taking in Kendra’s lovely teal pencil skirt, a white neatly tucked-in round neck paired with a few accessories, and white stilettos. Her waist-long brunette hair had been left to flow free and full.
