Chapter 124. A Win-Win?

Maddie felt a heavy silence settle over the room as the door closed behind Jacob. She looked around, trying to find some semblance of normalcy in the luxurious surroundings, but everything felt foreign and cold. 

Nate cleared his throat, breaking the silence. “I know this is a big change for you,” He began, his tone softer but still carrying an undertone of authority. “But I truly believe this is for the best. You have been through a lot and to be honest, you deserve to be here, Maddie; no matter how messed up you treat me, I am never going to leave your side. By your birthday, we will make this official.” He flashed her smile. 

His words were nice and because she kind of had some feelings for him, it brought a bittersweet feeling to her chest. She liked the words and the possibility they brought, but she knew that she could never have that, not with Elder Roy being her number one hater.
