Chapter 8. School Day

Maddie adjusted the backpack on her shoulder as she stepped onto the bus. Everyone was staring at her, even the bus driver. She kept moving, very aware of her space in the vehicle, which was at the back. 

Her heart raced in her chest as she kept walking, they all looked at her as if she was trash. They looked at her as if they were disgusted that she was even in the same space as them. 

Did she mind? Of course, she had a heart which meant that she had emotions. And those emotions were hurt at the moment. But when had they ever not been?

As she passed the row where Jacob and his friends sat, she kept her eyes on the ground, very self-aware of the kind of clothes she was wearing. 

“F*cking whore,” Jacob said loud enough for everyone to hear him, causing laughter to fill the bus. 

Maddie blinked faster than normal for a few seconds as she tried to hold back tears. She continued to walk until she was at the very back, then she sat in her seat.
