Maddie forced a smile, nodding at Madam Isabella’s words. She wished she could share in the excitement and pride, but the weight of Elder Roy’s threats overshadowed everything else. Her mind was a storm of conflicting emotions–fear, confusion, and an overwhelming sense of duty.
