Maddie nodded, swallowing her fear. “I understand,” She whispered, her voice filled with so many choked emotions.
“Good,” The man replied, a cold smile playing on his lips. “Now go back to the pack. Make sure you make Nate hate you with his guts. And trust me, if you try to play smart; if you think you can find a way to doublecross me, trust me, it won’t end well.”
With that, Elder Roy turned and began to walk away, disappearing into the shadows of the forest, leaving Maddie standing there, feeling more alone and vulnerable than ever. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart.
