As if Ava’s fate had been decided by the devil himself, her father’s guest was the very same man she flirted with at the club the night before. She desperately tried to evade his gaze as he approached the stairway where she was standing with her father.
“Ava,” her father whispered in a firm tone that reminded her how he softly scolded her when she was a child. “It is rude to fix your eyes to the floor when welcoming a guest.”
“Me?” she asked foolishly while blinking up to her father. “My gaze was not fixed to the floor,” a useless lie it was, it’s not like her father was too blind to see that she actually was pinning her gaze to the floor.
“Lucas Liam,” her father ignored her and greeted the unwanted guest who was now standing in front of them with a handshake. “I am glad you honored my invitation; it has been so long.”
