Kelsey POV
By the time I reached the bookstore, three strangers had called me by a dead woman’s name.
The hotel receptionist had dropped my room key when she saw me. A woman near the elevators had blatantly photographed me before pretending to check a text. Then, just outside the bookstore, an elderly man stared at me for several long seconds before hesitantly asking, “Mrs. Sterling?”
I ignored all three, though it was becoming increasingly difficult.
Laura walked beside me through the narrow employee corridor, her thumbs flying across her phone screen.
“Your photograph is spreading everywhere.”
“I gathered that from the woman who nearly walked into a pillar while trying to photograph me.”
“It’s worse online.”
I stopped in front of the doors leading to the shop floor. “How much worse?”
Laura tucked her phone against her chest. “Thousands of people are comparing your face to Kendra Sterling.”
