Chapter 5

Elera and I walked through the lonely lobby, the only sound being our footsteps echoing off the walls. As we approached the exit, I mustered up the courage to ask, “Hey, Elera, do you want me to walk you home?”

She turned to me with a small smile on her face. “Thanks, but I think I can handle myself. Besides, I live pretty close to the station.”

I nodded, trying to hide my disappointment. “Right, of course. Well, have a good night then.”

“You too,” she said before walking out the door.

As I turned to leave, I suddenly felt a sharp blow to the back of my head, and everything went black.

When I woke up, my head was pounding, and my arms were tied behind my back. Elera was next to me, unconscious, also tied up.

“Elera, Elera, wake up,” I whispered, trying to shake her awake.

She groaned and slowly opened her eyes, taking a moment to adjust to her surroundings. “What… what happened?”

“We got kidnapped,” I said, trying to keep my voice steady. “I don’t know where we are or who took us.”

Elera tried to move her hands, testing the strength of the ropes. “They tied us up pretty well. We need to find a way to get out of here.”

As we sat in silence, trying to come up with a plan, the door suddenly creaked open, and a figure walked in. It was a man, tall and menacing, with a scar running down the left side of his face.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” he said, grinning wickedly. “A couple of cops, all tied up and nowhere to go. This is going to be fun.”

I felt a wave of fear wash over me, but Elera remained calm and composed. “Who are you?” she asked, her voice steady.

“I’m someone who doesn’t like cops very much,” he replied, pulling out a knife from his pocket. “And I think it’s time we had a little chat.”

As he advanced towards us, I struggled against my restraints, but they held firm. We were completely at his mercy.

We were dragged into the dark room, and Elera and I exchanged worried glances. The room was dimly lit, and the only sound was the shuffling of feet as our kidnappers pushed us along. We were forced to sit in chairs facing a table, where two men sat waiting for us.

The man closest to me leaned forward and spoke in a deep voice. “Do you know who we are?”

Elera and I exchanged confused glances, unsure of what to say.

The man continued. “We are a group that is tired of the corruption in the police force. We have been watching you, and we know that you have been working to bring down those who are causing harm to our city.”

I could feel my heart racing as I tried to make sense of what was happening. Elera remained calm, her eyes fixed on the two men in front of us.

“We have a job for you,” the man said, his voice menacing. “We need you to take down a corrupt politician who has been lining his pockets with money from the d**g trade. We have proof of his wrongdoing, and we need you to bring him to justice.”

I exchanged a nervous glance with Elera, unsure of what to do. The man’s request seemed impossible, and I had no idea how we could possibly take down a corrupt politician without getting ourselves killed in the process.

But Elera seemed to have a plan. She leaned forward and spoke in a calm, steady voice. “What do you want us to do?”

The man smiled, his eyes glittering in the dim light. “We want you to use your skills to gather evidence against him. We want you to take down his operation, and we want you to do it without being detected.”

Elera nodded slowly, and I could see the determination in her eyes. “We’ll do it,” she said firmly. “But we’ll need your help.”

The man raised an eyebrow. “Our help?”

Elera nodded. “We need access to your resources. We need information.”

The man leaned back in his chair, considering her request. After a long moment, he nodded. “We’ll give you what you need. But remember, if you fail, there will be consequences.”

Elera and I exchanged a nervous glance as we were led out of the dark room. We had no idea what we had gotten ourselves into, but we knew that we had no choice but to see it through to the end.

“Your target is Memphis Emma,” the kidnapper said.

I had never heard of him before, but Elera’s face betrayed a look of recognition.

Memphis Emma was apparently accused of money laundering and child tra******ng and had a reputation for helping high-profile politicians get away with murder. The kidnappers said that the evidence we needed to bring him down was on a flash drive locked in his office, and if we successfully took him down, they would be in touch with their next target.

Elera and I looked at each other, unsure of what to do. I had just started my career as a police officer, and now we were being thrust into an undercover operation with unknown kidnappers. But we didn’t have a choice; we had to do this to survive.

We agreed to the kidnappers’ terms, and they let us go, warning us not to breathe a word of this to anyone, or else they would come after us and our families. As we walked out into the cool night air, Elera turned to me.

“I know Memphis Emma,” she said, her voice low. “He was my boss before I transferred to this department. He’s a powerful man with connections all over the city. Taking him down won’t be easy.”

We were blindfolded and taken away from the area, only to be tossed out of the van close to a trash can.
