Chapter 2
“Gia, we have to go,” Dustin said. “There’s a call.” Gia didn’t say goodbye to Morgan, just ran down the hall at full speed towards the ambulance. Moments later, she and Dustin were side by side in the ambulance, rushing towards their call.
“It’s at a restaurant,” he told her.
“Choking?” she asked.
“Not sure. The dispatcher said he’s unconscious.”
“Oh. Well, our day’s almost over Dustin. Hang in there, this is going to be our last call.”
He nodded. She could sense that he was tired, despite the quick burst of sugar and caffeine from his soda. They were working too hard. When they arrived at the restaurant, she instantly recognized the name of the place. It wasn’t a place she could afford to go, but she knew that it had the reputation as the best food in town.
“Nice,” Dustin said. “We can grab dinner to go.”
Gia rolled her eyes at him. “Let’s go.”
