Chapter 3
As she did the last set of compressions before they got to the hospital, the man began to speak to her. His voice was so confident, so deep and controlled, that it actually helped her to stay in time with her compressions rather than distract her. “You’re doing an amazing job,” he said. “It’s impressive to watch. I could watch you all day.”
She refused to let that last comment distract her, but it wasn’t easy. She wanted badly to turn and look at him, to let those blue eyes burn into her again. But she couldn’t. She had to focus.
This job comes first, she reminded herself. It always comes first. She kept compressing in rhythm.
When they arrived at the hospital, the nursing staff took over instantly. Morgan was there, shouting out orders and taking control of the situation. Soon, the two EMTs and the mystery man were left alone in the hall, following more slowly behind the rushing medical team.
