Chapter 12. The Chase
Detective Jones had been inside the grocery store gathering some evidence that would help him nail the shooter. He was yet to decide whether the incident was a robbery gone wrong or a case of assassination since the attendant said the shooter didn’t flee the scene with any cash.
Lacey flicked around. “Carl!”
She wasn’t expecting to see him at the scene.
“What are you doing here?” Detective Jones asked without hesitation.
“Same thing as you,” Lacey replied, looking away.
Detective Jones emitted a soft sigh. He dragged Lacey to a corner. “You shouldn’t be here,” he said.
“Why not?” Lacey furrowed her brows. She didn’t need his lectures about how dangerous playing a vigilante is. She’s past that now and wants to play by her rules always.
Detective Jones glanced around to make sure no one was watching. He switched his eyes back on Lacey as he opened his mouth to speak. “My captain has ordered me to arrest the vigilante behind the arrest of those
