Chapter 11. After Them
The faraway police sirens broke the silence of the night. Lacey stood behind her desk, receiving guests. The loud wailing noise coming from the sirens interrupted her thoughts, and her mind raced with different possibilities.
For a few seconds, she became puzzled as she thought to herself, “What is up this time? Could it be another robbery?”
“Hello…” one of the guests said, waving her hand at Lacey’s face to get her attention. Lacey gave her a perplexed look.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” she said, “your key.” She handed the guest the key to their room. Although the sirens had faded away, Lacey could still hear them ringing in her ears after she engaged her enhanced hearing ability.
“What could it be this time?” she mumbled to herself.
She glanced around desperately as if she were looking for someone. Her guests were already walking up the stairs to find their way to their respective rooms.
