Chapter 48. New Chase
Lacey shambled through the hallway. Before she could reach the stairs, Ruby grabbed her arm. “Come on, Lacey, you should be in bed.”
“Let go of my arm!” Lacey glared.
“Not until you’re back in bed.”
Lacey gnashed her teeth. “Bite me!” She twisted and grabbed Ruby’s hand, forcing her to release her.
Seeing that she had broken free from Ruby’s grip, she pushed her away. “I’m heading out.”
“No, you’re not!” Monica said from behind as she approached. She had been keeping an eye on Jack and Clara. When she caught Lacey’s scent down the hallway, she left what she was doing to restrain her. With a stern gaze on Lacey, she politely asked her to go back and rest while the effects of the wolfbane wore off.
Lacey blurted out, “You guys should stop telling me what to do.” She turned, casting her gaze on Ruby. “I’m done resting, and it’s time to act. If werewolves killed two officers, it’s my job to find them.”
