Chapter 52. No Hope

Alex glanced over his shoulder at Lacey running toward him, waving her hand in the air for him to stop.

Lacey stopped, placing her palm on Alex’s shoulder, and bent down to catch her breath. “Whew... That was the worst dinner ever,” she said, brushing back her hair. “I apologize for my uncle’s behavior.”

Alex smirked but continued to Lacey’s room. “You don’t need to apologize.”

He was going to pack his stuff and leave the hotel that same night.

Lacey snorted. “You should know I will never buy my uncle’s idea.”

Alex halted. He turned and faced Lacey. “I know, but I need to leave at once. Don’t want anyone to embarrass me.”

“No!” Lacey objected. “You’re not leaving just because of what he said.” In the end, Lacey won. He had to stay back, at least for the night. She assured him her uncle would never come between them to ruin their relationship.

She kissed him on the cheek. “You didn’t let your mom ruin us. I won’t let my insane uncle ruin us.”
