Chapter 47. New Dawn

Lacey’s head hurt, reeling from the wolfbane in her system. It was noon, and not all the wolfbane had left her system. Mr. Allen had almost emptied the entire supply of wolfbane he possessed into Lacey’s system.

She tried to get up from her bed, but Ruby gently held her down. “You’re not strong enough to stand,” Ruby said. “You need to rest a while and let the wolfbane wear off completely.”

“Where am I?” Lacey managed to squeeze out a few words. She had no idea she was home. What she did remember from last night was Mr. Allen pumping wolfbane into her system with a different syringe before she blacked out.

“You are home,” Ruby spoke in a gentle, soothing voice.

Ruby had followed Detective Jones’s suggestion to take Lacey home instead of leaving her in the same mansion where she was d*****d with wolfbane. She hadn’t hesitated to involve Alex’s mother in hurting Lacey, all in the name of choosing Jane as a bride for her son.
