Chapter 49. The Cue
Detective Jones glanced over his shoulder desperately to make sure no one was watching before he quickly moved toward Ruby. “Ruby. Ruby,” he called out to her in a whispering tone.
Ruby slowly removed her hands from the trunk. Her eyes returned to normal as she turned to face Detective Jones. “I’m fine,” she said. “We need to talk somewhere quiet.”
“What did you see?” Detective Jones desperately asked. He couldn’t wait to satisfy his curiosity. He persuaded Ruby to speak. “No one is watching or listening,” he added.
The other officers were busy with their various tasks, trying to gather more evidence that would lead them to the animals that had attacked their colleagues, ripping out their hearts. None of them was paying attention to Ruby or Detective Jones.
Detective Jones was the lead detective in this case. He believed otherwise than what the precinct had announced earlier.
