Just after dusk that evening, I found myself hiding out in the woods with Nocturne outside of the empire of Sunkig’s protected walls. She had teleported us to the location where her owls had last seen Grant’s lover. As soon as we appeared we saw holy knights making their rounds in the woods and both of us quickly had to hide. Nocturne hid by turning into an owl, and I used an invisibility spell that camouflaged me into the bark of a tree. I could sense the divine power radiating from the swords that they had holstered to their sides. I had believed Nocturne from the beginning when she said they had holy weapons, but now, being so close to the objects designed to kill magic users like me, it was eye-opening. Once the path was clear, Nocturne began to fly away. I grumbled to myself as I used my magic to float from treetop to treetop and followed her.
