Chapter 29

It was just before lunch when Nocturne and I arrived at the king’s castle. We were greeted by a royal butler just like before.

“Greetings, duchess. Please follow me to the War Room.” He bowed to us. Nocturne and I linked arms as we made our way through the castle following the butler. Any sign that she was anxious was completely erased. She had nothing but regalness pouring off of her. I stood confidently by her side as we entered the waiting area before the War Room.

“Duchess.” Grant, Devonte, and Hayman all greeted her warmly. I was surprised to see even Rosen acknowledge her from the wall he was leaning against.

“Good afternoon.” Nocturne smiled brightly at the young men. I noticed the older men were gathered around Thornton, and blatantly ignoring her. We did not have a lot of time for chit chat though as Raymond rushed into the room.

“Into the meeting room, now!” He commanded. Everyone seemed surprised by his authoritative command. While he was the k
