Chapter 38
Liana tightened her grip on her heels. “You really didn’t have to, I’m leaving right now,” she replied, her voice distant.
She didn’t want to stay. She didn’t even want to think about how she got there. She didn’t want to give herself the chance to forget how he made her feel because she knew spending time with him could easily replace that bad memory of him.
Cain paused briefly as he poured the noodles into a bowl. “You’re leaving?” he asked, glancing at her now. “Like that?”
His eyes flicked over her, not judging, just stating a fact. Liana instinctively reached up to her hair, trying to smooth it down again, even though she knew it was pointless.
She hesitated, just for a second, then she sighed and walked over, placing her heels down before climbing onto one of the tall kitchen stools.
She didn’t look at him as he set the bowl in front of her. “Thanks,” she muttered.
