A week later, Hailey finally dropped a message.
Hailey: We need to talk.
Ever since that night, we hadn’t seen or talked. She had packed her things and moved to Declan’s, as expected, and she had never tried to reach me until now.
I didn’t know how she and Declan were doing or planning, and frankly, I didn’t think I cared anymore. But if she wanted to meet all of a sudden and still without so much as an explanation for why she had done what she’d done that night, I couldn’t trust her.
Me: You can always call.
I faceplanted the phone on the table in front of me.
At that moment, I was stuck. There was a pile of bills on my table, and the frustration was crawling over every inch of my body as I stared at each and every one of them. I had managed to rectify the electrical bill and repair a faulty fridge, and it had left a huge, gaping hole in my bank account. There were bank loans I was yet to settle,
