It was a different meal from before—this time cake, bacon, and some fruits. I wasn’t impressed. It made no difference. I didn’t want to eat anything, not in his house where I was caged.
“Please, the master asked that you eat,” a maid said, her head still bent low, hands clasped tightly in front of her. Her voice trembled as if even speaking his name was forbidden.
So everyone’s scared of him. I really need to get out of here.
“And what if I refuse to eat?” I asked, my tone sharper than I intended. I noticed her fingers tremble even more.
“You won’t leave,” he answered from behind, his voice deep, calm, and terrifyingly close. His scent—this time mixed with menthol—filled the air. He’d definitely had his wounds cleaned.
