Chapter 56. Better Life Ahead
Florence’s POV
I was very lucky today. I was able to run up to the point where I could catch a cab to the main side of town. The cab man charged me a lot of money because of the distance, and maybe because he still saw that I was worn out and panting like crazy from running miles. I didn’t even bargain. I got in, and we started our way.
I didn’t have the chance to visit this part of town often. I couldn’t believe I wasn’t actually visiting now, and I was about to start my life here. I told him to take me to a very nice hotel, which he did.
I paid him from my own purse so he wouldn’t see me reaching into a fat envelope for some clean cash. Everything I had in my purse was used to pay for the fare, and if not for the money that I had been suddenly blessed with, I would have been so broke.
I got down and entered the hotel. I walked over to the receptionist and paid for a room. She handed me the keys and said someone would come up with fresh towe
