Chapter 6
Adam chose not to inquire about why she was still awake, respecting her decision to sleep or not. Holding the water bottle, he silently left the hall, feeling somewhat perturbed by her quietness. He understood that sometimes it was better to let her be rather than probe into her problems. Just six months ago, she had lost her beloved sister, who had been by her side since birth. He could only imagine the immense pain she must be going through.
He had been with her, his fiancée, for only three or four years, whereas she had shared more than twenty-five years with her sister. It was a trauma that was hard to escape. Adam sighed, acknowledging the profound difficulty of her situation.
“It must be so tough for her,” he muttered. But ultimately, he knew there was little he could do except blame life for the hardships it had dealt her.
