I sat on a bench at the park watching kids run around giggling, without an ounce of emotion. I didn’t want them and I never would. It was probably connected to my crappy childhood where I had to live with my alcoholic mother who never stopped cursing out a deadbeat dad I never saw.

The wind whipped through my face carrying a soft scent I knew all too well.

Elsie sat beside me on the bench in large sunglasses and a scarf that covered half of her face.

“Where have you been? Antonio is tearing the city apart trying to find you. At some point, I thought you were dead”

She shrugged. “He knew from the beginning. Apparently there is a mole among us” she stared ahead. “Antonio’s men are everywhere so I’ll make this quick. Amber has been discharged from the hospital”
